  • 2 cups fresh strawberries, hulled and chopped
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar (for filling)
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch
  • 2 tbsp water
  • 8 oz semi-sweet chocolate, chopped (for ganache)
  • 1 cup heavy cream (for ganache)
  • Fresh strawberries (for garnish)
  • Chocolate shavings or curls (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line three 8-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, sift together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together the milk, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla until combined.
  4. Gradually mix the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients followed by boiling water until smooth.
  5. Divide the batter evenly among the prepared pans and bake for 30–35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  6. Allow to cool in pans for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
