  • 1/2 cup (100 grams) granulated sugar
  • 1 cup (200 grams) lightly packed light brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs (at room temperature)
  • 1 large egg yolk (at room temperature)
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 1/2 cups (318 grams) all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon fine sea salt
  • 1 1/4 cups (213 grams) semisweet chocolate chips
  • 2 ounces (57 grams) semisweet chocolate (chopped into chunks)
  • Vanilla ice cream (for serving)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 325°F.
  2. Melt unsalted butter in a cast iron skillet over medium heat.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine melted butter with granulated and brown sugars, whisking until smooth. Let cool slightly before adding eggs and vanilla.
  4. Gently mix in flour, baking soda, and sea salt until just combined. Fold in chocolate chips.
  5. Pour the dough back into the skillet and sprinkle reserved chocolate chips on top. Bake for 30 to 40 minutes until edges are golden but center remains gooey.
  6. Allow to cool for 5–10 minutes before serving warm with scoops of vanilla ice cream.
